Liam Daniels ran through the woods. He hadn't stopped running since he saw those kids with the swords. He clutched his pocket knife in one hand and scanned his surroundings. Safe? Maybe not. He sat down on the tree trunk near by. He didn't wear much protection or camo. He wore hand-me-downs from the orphanage, a gray t-shirt, khaki cargo pants, and a plaid button up shirt. For shoes, all he had were converse two sizes too small. He heard a twig snap and raced up a tree. He had never been out in the wilderness, only in the city. The only survival skills he knew were running, climbing, and throwing a punch if needed.

Liam sat back against a tree and observed the area. He took out his pocket knife and examined it. He'd never opened it, let alone used it. He pried open the blade and then took notice to the dials. He switched it to the picture of a ball of yellow. It clicked, and the blade disappeared, replaced by a copper colored beam of light that hummed. His blue eyes widened with suprise. He swung it toward a branch, he heard a small hissing noise as the blade sweep clean through it. Part of the branch fell to the ground. "Wicked." He mumbled. "I've got a lightsaber!"

Terra held her breath as the branch she had jumped to swayed. He had nearly seen her when he went to cut the branch she had previously been sitting on. She would have been badly injured or lost the element of surprise. She snorted, "A lightsaber, huh? Watch where you swing it next time."

Liam jumped at the voice. He saw a girl looking at him. He grew quite. Being only 8, his people skills were bad. "Sorry." He said in a small voice. "I didn't see you."

Terra shrugged, "It's alright just be careful next time." She looked at him and frowned, "What are you doing out here all by yourself any way? how old are you?"

Liam's blue eyes darkened. "I ran away, ma'am. I saw kids with swords and monsters." He looked down at his pocketknife, now closed. "And I'm 8."

Terra smiled, "There's no need to call me ma'am but I do like the respect. I'm Terra." She paused thinking about what he had seen. "And the people you saw were others like you. The monsters won't start attacking you till your about 13."

Liam stopped for a moment. "Ummm....the monsters I'm talking about are human. Well, at least they looked human."

"Most monsters have the ability to diguise themselves", Terra said calmly, "sometimes you'll see through it sometimes you won't." She looked at Liam, the child was bound to have questions. Terra stood up on her branch and jumped down, Why don't you walk with me? You can ask questions as we go."

Liam nodded. He didn't really trust her, but she was the only person who could help him. He put his pocket knife in his back pocket and followed her. His first question was, "Who am I? There was this man who came by the orphanage and thought I was somewhat special. The only thing I've come to being special was when the bullies at that house of Terror didn't pick on me, but everyone else." He looked down at his small feet. "I don't get how Liam Daniels is special, different or someone worth looking at."

Terra looked at him. Her confidence in making sure not to trust this child, none the less a boy, was getting harder to maintain. She remembered thinking that before she had found out she was a child of Demeter. "Your special because your a demigod and the man was probably a monster trying to gain your trust", Terra gave a reasuring look to him, "since no one knows who your parent is yet it's better to kill a demigod when there young and don't know who they are or how to defend themselves."

Liam's blue eyes became bigger. "Kill me?" His voice cracked. "I-I wanna learn. I don't wanna die!"

"You're not going to die. I'll protect you but even i'm not unkillable", Terra said looking into Liam's eyes, "I can train you a little with that pocket knife of yours but the training would be limited because I favor my bow. For the rest of your training you'll have to wait till we get to camp halfblood."

Liam eyed the bow and arrows strapped to Terra's back. "Could you teach me how to do Archery too? Sometimes, I'll need to know more than just how to manage a knife."

Terra smiled, "of course. Having me as your trainer with archery you'll be pretty good but not as good as the Appolo kids. You can have them finnish archery training with you. I can't stay forever."
