Eli was walking along the beach. He wore black athletic shorts, a gray t-shirt with the sleeves cut off, and Nike's. His blond hair was waving furiously in the wind. His blue eyes reflected hurt, and confusion. He looked up at the night sky, and sighed. He started kicking sand around with his feet. He wasn't just upset about Nicki. He was worried about more things than that. But still, it hurt whenever he looked up to the mess hall and saw the prom. He even saw Nicki and Aaron. He picked up a stone on the ground and chucked it as far as he could out into the dark water.

Nicki looked out to see Eli walking around the beach. Saying something to Aaron, she left and hurried outside. "Eli." She caught up to him. "I wish I could please everybody." She looked out across the water, the wind whipping her hair around. "I hated having to choose between you and Aaron. Aaron's a good friend, but so are you. It seemed like no matter what I did, I would have hurt somebody. Though I doubt this helping at all."

Eli sighed deeply. "Nicki, I really appreciate those words...but, it's not just about this prom, and you. My life has been a living hell...and I just realized it." He blinked a couple times, trying not to cry. He wasn't much of a crier. Memories filled his head. His step-father abusing him; watching his mother being beaten; being chased by monsters......the car crash. That particular memory hurt worst of all. He plopped down onto the sand, wiping his eyes, and unsuccessfully hiding his emotions from Nicki. He held his head in his hands and sighed. "It seems like all the 'cool' kids have all the luck."

Nicki said nothing for a moment. Then she stepped forward and put her arms around his shoulders. "But its all over now. Thats all behind you. You can start over here Eli." She said gently.

Eli shuddered. He took a deep breath. "You don't know the burdens I bare." He whispered. "All the things I've done.....forced to do, and I still have to live with them."

He rolled his eyes at her comment. Lately, he had been get touchy, irritable, and cranky. "Good, cause I don't like talking about it." He reached his hand inside his pocket, and fiddled with his new poker chip. It was made of heavy plastic, but if flipped, changed into two weapons.

Nicki sat back, looking a little uncomfortable. "Well, I better go back. They'll be wondering where I am. If you need anything Eli, just ask." She turned to go, careful not to step on her dress.

As soon as Nicki left, a shadow-like, black wisp seeped out from Eli's chest. It took the form of a young girl. She looked about the age of 12. Her hair was cut short and she wore something similar to what the Hunters of Artemis would wear. "Let your feelings fuel your choices. Now, it's time for you to choose. Join me, or suffer." Her voice was firm, and strong. "I don't know, Skye." She rolled her dark eyes. "Eli Ash, what have the gods done for you? What have these demigods done for you?" Eli nodded. Skye smiled. "Does that influence your choice?" "I will join you." Skye crossed her arms across her chest and nodded in satisfaction. "Pledge your service to me. Say, "I pledge myself, son of Erebus, to Skye Cooper, daughter of Artemis, and her fellow ghosts." Eli repeated the oath. "Welcome aboard." Skye smiled, and then vanished.
