Murphy entered the arena. His cold, metal fingers clutched a long, bronze and imperial gold knife. He wore a gray, track sweatshirt and jeans. He fixed the velcro straps on his fingerless gloves, and spotted a practice dummy. With great sped, he lunged at the dummy and sliced it's head off with a swift blow.

"Not bad." A girl with brown hair entered the arena. She was dressed in fighting gear and combat boots. Her eyes were dark, almost menacing. A long silver sword was in her hand, and a dagger with a boar on the hilt hung from her belt. Though no one could see it, a knife was hidden in her left boot. "The name's Astrid, daughter of Ares, the god of war."

Murphy smirked. "Murphy King, son of Hermes." He held out his hand to shake, but knowing a child of the war god, that wasn't too likely. He dropped his hand, and stripped off his sweatshirt, revealing a black t-shirt with paint-splatters on it. "How long have you been here?"

She ignored his hand, and shrugged. "Since yesterday. How about you?"

He sheathed his knife and said, "A week." Murphy pulled out a 3 foot sword, and pointed it at her. "Wanna spare? I know we both barely have experience, but..." He shrugged. "It'll be fun."

Astrid smiled. "What's the point in asking? A daughter of the god of war never turns down a fight." She twirled her sword around, waiting for him to make the first move.

Murphy gripped his sword tightly. Quickly, he made a swing for shoulder.

She ducked, spinning around, to hit him on the back.

Jay walked up to the arena boundary and watched the two from a distance. Shrugging at the uselessness of the new talent he walked back to Thalias tree to see if anyone else was there. "They just don't make em like they used to."

Astrid glanced over as she saw someone she hadn't seen before. Shrugging, she turned back to Murphy, her eyes narrowed in concentration.

He missed her swing, and thrusted, aiming for her middle.

She veered off the side, leaping into the air to swing down.

He wasn't so quick this time. The sword barely grazed his back. He jumped at the sting and made a blow by instinct.

She ducked but the sword just nicked her arm, thankfully, not her right one. She swung out with her sword, while popping back up at the same time.

Murphy lost his balance and fell on his backside. He looked up to her, grinning. "You're pretty good. I mean, you've had no camp training. How'd you learn to fight?"
