Anabelle nodded, reassured and relieved. The last thing she wanted was to be in the way. "That I can do." She replied, a touch of confidence in her voice.

Cory smiled and said, "Alright. We can train together, that way I can get used to not needing to use my powers...it really drains me."

(was waiting for jay to post, but for the sake of not letting this die, i'm going to throw something out) Anabelle smiled. "Sounds good. We haven't in forever." (ugh, feels like a filler. where exactly are we going with this from here?)

(Well...we were going to get help from other people in camp but seeing as no one's there...I guess we can run into River or Nicki?)
Cory grinned and said, "Let's get to it then." His face went stiff and they both shadow traveled to the edge of a road. He looked at Anabelle and smiled, "Haven't got any Greek curses have you?"

(works for me)
His expression matched her own, and after they shadow traveled, she shook her head. "No, not something I usually carry." She said with half of a laugh. "Why?"

Cory gave a small laugh and said very seriously, "Because..." As they rounded a small town and a bunch of small dots appeared, "We're kicking it Roman style." He stopped suddenly looked at the sky and then said quickly and darkly, "Anabelle, get out your weapon. We may be in for a fight before we can go in."

A flame shot down from the sky in front of the two and a crouched figure appeared. He was wearing a nice, blue short sleeved, button up shirt and khaki cargo shorts. He turned around, a grin wide on his face. He held a shaking Son of Aphrodite in his hands and said, "Hello Master Jason, Lady Teague. Long time no see. It's been a long several months for this boy, Chris Love."
Cory snarled, "M the Seer. Or should I call you Marcus Seeker?"

Anabelle gave a quick nod and pulled out her sword. She kept her dagger sheathed but it would take her a mere second to pull it out if she needed it. She looked up as the flame shot down and narrowed her eyes as she watched the figure. Her sword tip rested lightly on the ground and she kept her eyes on both him and Cory.
(I forget, where has she met him before or has she?)

(The Big House, the thread Hanging Around and on Halfblood hill, the thread Border Patrolling.) (btw, the *** is a passing of time, so if you want to, you can put those in to clarify for the post following this)
Marcus growled and pointed his free finger at Cory, "You have no right to call me that Master Jason. I was just here to...finish some business with a friend of mine. Erik Pontius? Do you know him?"
Cory's eyes became cold as stone and he almost snarled, "You filthy excuse for a demigod! How could you?" He was in a stance, slightly in front of and protecting Anabelle, but away from her enough to give her fighting space.
M laughed and said, "Well you see, it's quite simple. He wants his brother, he wants your head, and above all, he wants to see you lose the one thing you cherish more than anything. Her." He pointed a finger at Anabelle and smiled, "I'm willing to compromise. You can have young Chris Love, the one who caused Valerie Carter and River Jackson to split, sending River across the world and making your camp almost without fun; if I can have Ms. Anabelle over here, the love of your life, probably the only one you've been capable of loving, you heartless demigod."
Cory didn't hesitate, he held his sword up and charged at Marcus. Marcus just smirked and threw Chris aside and pulled out a small dagger, knowing Cory would be so mad that he wouldn't see it. He aimed quickly and with a flick of his wrist, threw it at Cory's heart. He smirked as he saw the demigod stop suddenly and fall. He turned to Anabelle and said, "Your boyfriend should have known better then to try that on me."
Cory lay on his back, his clothes beginning to stain with blood. He reached for the dagger and pulled it out, gasping for breath. His vision was going blurry, and his hearing wasn't very well but he managed to mutter "You will never touch her. Never."
Cory began to glow faintly, though Marcus didn't notice because he was advancing on Anabelle. Cory stopped bleeding and he stood, almost unnaturally, and picked up his sword and the dagger that pierced his heart. He muttered something to it and it glowed pink.
Marcus laughed, "Say one last goodbye to him, Ms. Teague, because you will never see him ag-" He stopped abruptly and looked down at the knife protruding from his chest. He turned to see a gold glowing Cory Jason. He cursed and then choked on his blood, "This...this isn't over, Jason..." He vanished, leaving Cory, Anabelle, and a tortured Chris on the side of the hill.
Cory watched him go, looked at Anabelle, his navy tinted with gold. Suddenly the gold vanished, the glow shimmered away and Cory collapsed at Anabelle's feet, the bleeding beginning again. That's when a familiar figure appeared a few feet away. Cory was just able to process who it was before he blacked out. Aaron Pontius.
*** (meanwhile, back in the camp)
Aaron was in a 'meeting' with another centurion when a boy, about the age of 13 burst in blushing and panting saying something about two kids on a hill and a fire ball. Aaron looked skeptically at the kid, then looked back at the centurion, named Sarah. She just shook her head and stood, heading to the door after the kid.
Aaron thought for a moment then he stood and ran out after them. He found them at the foot of the hill, both of them staring up at it in awe, Sarah said, "A god...what else could it be? No mortal, or demigod could ever do something like that..."
He followed her gaze and saw four figures on a hill, one, a man, was approaching another, a girl. Another was laying on the ground and the fourth was glowing and standing up. Aaron's eyes widened when he saw what the person was wearing, their hair, and their sword. Cory!
He burst out and ran as fast as he could up the hill. Sarah and the boy were yelling after him, telling them to stay out of it, that it was god business. He ignored them, shed half his armor as he ran up the hill and got to the top just in time to see someone vanish into thin air, and see Cory fall at the girl's, Anabelle's feet. He ran over to Anabelle and said, "I got this. Follow me."
He called Sarah and the boy up to grab Chris and Aaron pulled the bleeding, unconscious Cory over his shoulder. He gripped Anabelle's hand in comfort, let go then ran at top speed toward the hospital. The last thing he wanted was for Anabelle to lose this guy.
*** (an hour or two later)
The unconscious Cory sat in an infirmary bed, hooked up to an IV and a cup of ambrosia next to his bed. A small monitor was beeping in his room. He was still in his bloody clothes. Aaron was leaning against the doorway, his face scrunched up in thought.
What was Cory doing here? Who was that guy on the hill? What the hell have I been missing?
Sarah sat in one of the chairs in the room, just watching Aaron, before she got up, gave him a kiss on the cheek and left quietly. Leaving Aaron, Cory, (and Anabelle...) alone in the room.

(ah, right) Anabelle inwardly scoffed. Like Cory would ever agree to that compromise. As soon as Cory charged, she raised her sword in a defensive stance. She started to warn him when she spotted the dagger but by the time she had opened her mouth, Marcus had thrown it at him. "Cory!" Her heart in her throat, her first instinct was to run to him but she couldn't, not with Marcus advancing on her.
Her eyes darkened and if Marcus thought he would be able to easily take her down, he had another thing coming. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Cory began to glow and stand up. She could only hope with his...powers and abilities that he'd be okay. As she looked back at Marcus, she hissed, "That's what you think."
After Cory stabbed him, and he disappeared, Anabelle dropped her sword and caught Cory before he hit the ground. She glanced up and seeing Aaron, she didn't think she had ever been so relieved to see anyone, besides Cory.
She didn't say anything, just watched as he picked Cory up, then flew after him towards the hospital.
*** Anabelle sat silently by Cory's side, his hand in hers. She couldn't help but feel that this was somehow her fault. Or at least partly. Cory had charged Marcus because of her, because he had been protecting her. If only she had been able to warn him in time or...or...
She shook her head at herself. Stop thinking about what if's Anabelle It can't change the past. And it won't help Cory. The voice in her head told her but it couldn't rid of the nagging guilt.
She didn't notice Sarah leave, nor Aaron's presence. "You'll be okay." She murmured, half because she needed to hear herself say it. "You have to be okay. I need you to be okay." It was Cory she was talking about. If anyone could pull through it, he could. He had to. Because a world without him just wasn't a world at all.

A doctor, a son of Apollo, walked into the room, the clicks of his shoes bouncing off the walls. He held in his hand a clip board and his face shown only the slightest trace of relief, but also another hidden emotion: maybe sadness or grief. Aaron stood from where he was sleeping, woken up by the shoes and he gave the doctor a curt nod, "Dr. Liam. How is he?"
Dr. Liam walked over to the monitor, on the side opposite from Anabelle. He took a long pause before replying, "He's stable. But he is still in very critical health. I've never seen someone with this much damage to their body and mind survive an attack like that without dying. This is indeed an extraordinary boy."
Aaron sighed in relief and said quietly, "That he is. Wait...what do you mean damage to his mind?"
"As part of the procedure for this specific case, we had to check for brain damage. Luckily, there is none there, but his brain activity is off the charts. Right after you brought him here, he was using 100% of his brain potential. That is around 10x more than the average human, and about 9x more than your average power wielding demigod. Now, he's back to normal at about 11% brain activity, but I've never in my entire life seen something so strange."
Aaron raised an eyebrow, "That's...intense. But...it's not dangerous to him is it?" Dr. Liam just shrugged and said,
"No human has been able to do that before, there's not tests to show results, therefore I can't tell you what will happen to do fluctuations like that. But for now, it seems that these changes aren't affecting him physically."
Aaron sighed, "Thank you." He sat back down and closed his eyes. Dr. Liam flicked a dial on the monitor and gave a sigh, mumbling, "What else could I say to him?..."
The doc. turned to Anabelle and said, "You need rest. Cory will still be asleep when you wake up. He's in a semi-comatose state. When he has recovered enough, he'll wake up. If you have any questions..." He started to turn toward the door, but he paused a moment to see what Anabelle had to say.

Anabelle was relieved to hear Cory was stable but the rest worried and surprised her. She had known Cory was powerful, but she hadn't known he could do something like that. She hoped it wouldn't leave permanent damage but they wouldn't know anything till he woke up. Which by the look of things, could be a while. But no matter how long it took, she would wait. Nothing could tear her away from him.
She gave a small nod to Dr. Liam. Exhausting herself wouldn't help Cory. But she was sleeping in a chair next to him. She didn't care if he'd still be asleep, she wasn't leaving the room. She shook her head in answer to Dr. Liam. "No questions." All she could do was wait now. She dragged a chair over and gave Cory a quick kiss on the head before sitting down. She closed her eyes, her hand resting on top of Cory's. She didn't think she'd be able to fall asleep, but within minutes, she had dozed off.

It was raining outside and the sky was dark, only lit by flashes of lightning. A little boy looked out the window, his eyes dark but seemingly relieved by the fact it was raining. He turned back to the interior of the room, his eyes met several others who shared his joy. Training for the day was cancelled. The boy decided that he would spend most of the day sleeping and recovering from the near torture training that had been beating his body for months now.
Before he could fully sleep, a girl, about the same age poked him in the ribs, "Hey...Cory? What are you going to do today?" Cory opened his eyes and turned over to face a girl, about the age of 8, the same age Cory was at this time. He gave a weak smile.
"I'm doing what any sane bounty hunter trainee would do, Aria, I'm resting. This will probably be the only day we get to sleep for more than three hours for a while." The girl nodded, looked like she was going to say something more, but then left.
Cory closed his eyes and fell asleep easily among the noise of the playing children.
Only three rooms away, a dark figure grinned at the screens. The children would play all day and be tired the next, when their final test is. Pontius...you know what to do." The smaller figure nodded and headed for the door, vanishing into the darkness.
Back in reality, Cory twitched a lot from this dream and by the end, he was squeezing Anabelle's hand.

Anabelle had always been a bit of a light sleeper and especially now, it didn't take much to wake her up, so the squeeze of her hand had her eyes open at once. For a split second, she thought Cory was awake, till she remembered it wouldn't be this soon, and she saw his eyes were still closed.
He seemed to be dreaming and he kept twitching in his sleep. She gently squeezed his hand back and using her free hand, tucked in the covers around him. She didn't know if it was just a dream or a nightmare, so she caressed his cheek and gave him a kiss so he'd hopefully know she was still there and rouse him from any troublesome memories. "I'm right here." She murmured. She settled back down in the chair and watched him for a few minutes before eventually closing her eyes and letting sleep take over once more.

*Flashback*
Cory woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and well rested. He stretched and yawned before looking around. The other trainees were knocked out. He looked at his watch, 5:30am. The wake up call would be sounding in an hour. The eight year old decided to train for a bit, he knew that days were there was free time meant that training was hard the next day. He headed to the training area a grabbed his assigned weapon for the month: a dagger.
He trained for a half an hour and then left to shower and get ready for the day ahead. By the time he was done, he was already sitting and eating in the mess hall when the wake up bell rang. However, it was followed by something unusual, an announcement.
"Bounty Hunter Trainees, you are to report immediately to the mess hall for today's schedule and a brief breakfast. Today is a very...special day for all of you. Now get moving!"
It didn't take long for the other groggy 8 to 10 year olds to make it to the mess hall. Cory went up to grab his schedule but another announcement sounded, this time it sounded like a younger kid.
"Hello newbies. Today is your final test. We've brought you all here to see what you are made of. It's every man for themselves, you get 10 minutes to prepare before you are all taken to the test arena to fight against one another. The winner of this will get a very special reward. get moving!"
Cory ran to the training area and grabbed a sword and hid a dagger near his side; he put his armor on and made sure he had everything ready. He was outside waiting to be moved to the arena with 7 minutes to spare.
The trainees were taken to the arena and the doors closed. The lights went out, save for one about the size of a soccer ball at the top of it.
That's when all hell broke loose.
Kids started running at each other and attacking. Cory knew that this was all part of the test. He quickly got out of the thick of battle and slunk into the shadows. He watched quietly as kids took each out, not killed but when you were seriously injured you were transported out right away by some sort of magic.
About an hour later only a few kids still stood fighting each other. Aria was one of them but she was soon taken out by a new figure, a bigger one. As were the others. First Aria, then Hunter, then Raul. Finally, the only one left was Cory and the new figure.
"You can come out now, Cory Jason. You knew our plan, to ware them out and pin them against each other. They wouldn't have lasted long anyways. But you...how you managed to be the only smart one we might never know. So...your final test is..." The figure advanced, "To fight me."
Cory's eyes widened as he readied himself as the seasoned bounty hunter attacked him. Everything seemed to slow around Cory as he anticipated the hunter's move and blocked it. He slammed the butt of his sword down on his back and the hunter fell, only momentarily fazed. "Not bad Jason."
The hunter swung his arm around and Cory toppled over, pinned by the hunter. But Cory reacted quickly and somersaulted, making the hunter loose his balance. They both stood up and the hunter smirked he lunged for Cory's left side and when Cory went to block, the hunter aimed for Cory's right and disarmed him. Cory stumbled back in surprise and the hunter took this advantage to trip Cory, who fell and the hunter had him pinned.
"Looks like you are disarmed. So, you aren't bounty hunter material after all." Cory smirked and the hunter gasped in surprise and pain, looking down at where Cory stabbed his side. Cory twisted and turned, managing to pin the hunter and have his knife at the guy's neck.
"Looks like you are wrong." The hunter growled and was taken away by two nurses. A man came up to a bruised and bloody Cory and shook his hands, "I believe Congratulations are in order, Mr. Jason. You just beat one of our most highly trained new hunters out there: Erik Pontius, age 14. Welcome to the League of Bounty Hunters, you are the first ever, under the age of 10 hunter in history. I'd like you to go on a mission as soon as possible. Pack your stuff. Here's your target. By the way, I'm Thomas Bryant, but I'd like you to call me by my code name: Ra."
Cory took the package from him and nodded, "T-thank you, Ra."
Ra nodded and said, "You must also choose a code name and I'd like you to know, you will run into Mr. Pontius a lot, as he is your mission bearer (he'll give the missions from Ra to Cory). Good luck." Ra walked out and left Cory to his thoughts. He opened the package and looked at the face of the person he was about to find: Matthew Harris, half-blood. Deliver to Warehouse 367 on West Road in New York.
Cory wasn't claimed yet (or knew he was a demigod), but he knew of the bounty hunters, trainees and actual hunters, were half-bloods. He grinned and headed toward the door, his sword in hand, his dagger hidden. Thus began the journey of the bounty hunter Cory Jason, code named Link.
Cory's eyes closed tight at sometimes, almost looking like they were going to open but they didn't. He felt, but didn't know what the feeling in his hand was, but he felt comforted by it. He made a few noises, grunts and huffs. He was literally reliving his days as a bounty hunter, some of the days he most regrets.
