River stopped at the road at the bottom of the hill, his backpack on his back and his duffle bag waiting on the side of the road. He turned back and saw someone had come to talk to Valerie and he thought, She'll be fine. I'm not the one thing keeping her alive. I've got my own problems now. He threw a coin in a puddle of water and said, "Percy, its time I take a trip of my own. Come pick me up."
River sat down and waited, he knew that it'd only be a few minutes but he needed a bit of time alone before he started traveling the world. Who knows, maybe he'd end up seeing the camp in Greece. He shook his head, and after about 10 minutes he saw a car driving up the road. He stood and grabbed his duffle bag and slung it around his shoulder. The car came to a stop and the dark window was rolled down. River peeked in.
"Hey kid, you sure that you want to be doing this?" A voice said from the driver's seat. River's eyes lit up when he saw the face,
"I'm sure. Did Percy send you so he wouldn't have to deal with me?"
The man replied, "Nah, I offered to go in Percy's place. He's got his own life to deal with River. He doesn't need to be worrying about his little brother, cousin, or whatever, too." River grinned,
"Well, technically we aren't related that much blood wise except through Poseidon, but I guess you are a plus then, Logan." He hopped into the car with his older brother and they sped off, on the way to the airport. It was quiet for the first hour until Logan said, "So what are you planing on doing now that you are leaving camp, and traveling the world alone?"
River shrugged, "I guess I'm just gonna visit the places were the gods used to reside, then try to lead a normal life there until I feel its time to come back home, you know?" Logan shrugged,
"I'm just surprised is all that you are doing this with you being leader of Ca-"
River cut him off with a snap, "I'm not leader of anything. I'm just one of the senior campers. Valerie can handle it, and if not then Cory and Anabelle can! Alright? I'm not necessary to the survival of Camp Half-blood!" Logan just shook his head,
"You'll find out that you're wrong, and when you do. You'll wish you thought things through more."
They were quiet for awhile more and during that time, River fell into a much needed sleep. And when he did, Logan pulled over, leaned his chair back and put two bracelets in River's duffle bag, and a note that read:
Son,
I'm sorry that you feel the way you do about Camp, your friends, demigods, minor gods, and well...you know everything you feel bad about. I understand you have to leave but please wear these two bands on your arm. They will protect you when you go to Europe. And if you ever go to Ireland, look up a man named Toran Lost. Please.
Your father,
Poseidon
P.S. When you read this letter and once you finish reading it, the letter will disintegrate so that no one can read what I have given to you.
Logan zipped up the bag and leaned back up and continued to drive, entering New York city.
